Apple confirmed that the rebuilt Siri AI goes live September 14 with iOS 27, rolling out in English to iPhone and Mac users this fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro launch. Per AI Weekly and Mashable, the assistant Apple introduced in June as “profoundly more capable” was trained using Google’s Gemini models, a partnership Apple itself confirmed, putting a Gemini-derived brain inside the assistant on a billion-device install base.

What the New Siri Actually Is

The shipped architecture is a three-layer split. On-device handling handles simple requests; anything complex routes through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, where reports indicate a Gemini model with roughly eight times the parameters of Apple’s in-house AI does the heavy lifting under Apple’s privacy promises. For Google, this is the largest model-distribution deal in consumer history: Gemini’s capabilities embedded in the default assistant on hundreds of millions of iPhones, with Apple’s brand and privacy architecture absorbing the trust questions. For OpenAI, it confirms the loss of the default assistant slot it held through the ChatGPT app era, a distribution blow no API contract offsets. And for the assistant market, the Extensions system mainstreams the multi-model pattern: users choosing per-task models (Claude for writing, Gemini for search) inside a first-party shell makes model-switching a consumer behavior rather than a developer practice.
