OpenAI has confirmed the acquisition of NextSlide, pivoting the startup's prompt-to-deck generation technology into native presentation features for ChatGPT.
OpenAI has finalized its acquisition of NextSlide, bringing native presentation authoring capabilities to its core chatbot platform. The deal, which officially closed in March 2026 but remained unannounced until August, sees the entire NextSlide engineering team transition to OpenAI. The startup’s standalone prompt-to-deck service has been shuttered, routing existing traffic to a static goodbye page.
Integration With ChatGPT Canvas
NextSlide specializes in converting unstructured information like rough notes and research documents into formatted, editable slide decks. OpenAI plans to integrate this rendering engine directly into the ChatGPT Canvas workspace. Canvas currently handles document writing and code editing, but lacks a dedicated graphical interface for presentation assembly.

Competing platforms are already deploying AI models across Excel and PowerPoint, bridging the gap between chat interfaces and standard office formats. Beshry brings a track record of scaling AI-driven workflows, having previously sold Caper AI to Instacart for $350 million.
The NextSlide purchase follows a rapid sequence of targeted acquisitions, including analytics provider Statsig for $1.1 billion, personal finance apps like Hiro, and Jony Ive’s hardware startup io for $6.5 billion. Together, these acquisitions point toward a unified desktop agent ecosystem designed to rival traditional software suites.
For developers integrating with presentation APIs, expect OpenAI to eventually expose slide generation parameters through the official SDK. Monitor the Canvas feature releases to understand how NextSlide’s structured output logic maps to the ChatGPT backend.
